NAPOLI, 1986-87

1986-87 was the best season in the whole history of Napoli: it was the season of the first Scudetto. Maradona had just come back from Mexico where he had captained Argentina to win the World Cup.
That season Maradona became the true hero for the city of Naples: he was the man who finally took the team to win its first Italian League title. Napoli defeated the richer teams from Northern Italy and for the first time in the history of Italian soccer a Southern team won the Scudetto. It was a real event in Naples and everywhere in the city there were banners, pictures, flags, whatever you can imagine for a big party.

Diego scored many beautiful goals, such as the one against Sampdoria with a diving header, or the one against AC Milan when he dribbled two defenders scoring from the goal kick line! Maradona scored 10 times in 29 matches and he was the top goalscorer of Napoli. Andrea Carnevale scored 8 goals.

Napoli won the COPPA ITALIA as well and made a fantastic double!!
In the Coppa Italia, Napoli won 13 out of the 13 matches in the competition. No team has ever achieved such a result.
